Our third brand, GIR, is turning discarded cutting boards into beautiful new tools for cutting or serving.
The Pattern home is filled with objects intentionally designed to make your everyday more enjoyable, and GIR is in the business of improving ordinary kitchenware using extraordinary materials that last a lifetime. We knew that together, we’d make magic.
We’re proud and excited to introduce GIR’s first new product since joining the Pattern family: a 100% recycled, 100% recyclable, cutting-and-serving board made entirely of discarded cutting boards and plastic packaging materials.
The inspiration behind this product started with a simple question: how do we transform trash into a timeless home good? We were inspired by material innovation from around the world and worked closely with renowned materials design house, Smile Plastics to translate that inspiration into a beautiful and functional tool for your kitchen.
Assembled by hand with each panel slowly arranged before pressing, every board is one-of-a-kind and has a dynamic appearance with variance at every angle.
“The organic pattern and bold colors are certain to make an impact in your everyday life, whether you're preparing a meal, serving a cheese plate, or simply admiring them on the drying rack." – Stine Nielsen, Associate Creative Director
Transforming literal trash into a timeless belonging that is both functional and beautiful, the recycled cutting board exemplifies what we're all about and represents infinite possibilities still yet to come.
Smile Plastics is a materials design and manufacturing house based in Wales, UK, creating handcrafted decorative panels from waste. They're out to challenge the idea of "waste" and the system that creates it. Designers from around the world are using their materials for a wide range of use-cases—from everyday objects to large-scale installations in residential and commercial buildings.
